Residents invited to River Monnow flood report drop-in
Residents are invited to come along, ask questions and find out more about the River Monnow Catchment Section 19 Flood Report at a community drop-in session in Monmouth.
The session will take place on Tuesday 10 November, from 12:30pm to 7pm at Monmouth Sports Association Pavilion, Chippenham Sports Ground, Monmouth.
Following severe flooding from the River Monnow during Storm Claudia in November 2025, Monmouthshire County Council, as Lead Local Flood Authority, has completed its Section 19 investigation. The report examines the causes and impacts of the flooding and recommends actions to improve flood resilience, community preparedness and understanding of local flood risk.
The drop-in is an opportunity for residents to speak directly with the organisations involved, ask questions about the report and its recommendations, and find out what happens next.
There is no need to book, residents can call in at any time.
Residents will have the opportunity to speak directly with representatives from:
- Monmouthshire County Council’s Flood Risk Management team - manages local flood risk from surface water, groundwater and ordinary watercourses, and investigates significant flooding incidents.
- Monmouth Town Council - represents the local community and works with residents and partner organisations on issues affecting Monmouth.
- Natural Resources Wales - manages flood risk from main rivers and works alongside other organisations to reduce the risk and impact of flooding.
- Wye and Usk Foundation - works to protect and restore the rivers Wye and Usk and their wider catchments, including improving river and land management.
- National Flood Forum- supports people and communities affected by flooding and helps them understand and manage their flood risk.
Cllr Catrin Maby, Cabinet Member for Climate Change and the Environment, said: “We're aware of how devastating the flooding has been for people and businesses across communities in the River Monnow catchment. This session is about bringing people together and giving residents the opportunity to ask the questions that matter to them.
“Our priority is to be there for residents and businesses affected by flooding, while working together to help our communities feel better prepared and more resilient for the future. We will continue to listen, learn and work closely with local communities and partner organisations as this work moves forward.
“We hope people will come along, have a conversation with the organisations involved and find out more about the report, its recommendations and what happens next.”
